Part One · The ritual of invocation

Invoking Christ bridges Christian mysticism and Western ceremonial practice. Rev Benton traces the ancient Headless Rite to its origins, then modifies it for one purpose: the invocation of Christ. The book sets out the working in seven movements:

- Psalms and praise: Psalms 23, 27, 91 and 150 as instruments of invocation.

Ceremonial texts describe the evocation of spirits into visible appearance. Rev Benton warns against seeking a physical evocation of Christ as a form of idolatry, and teaches instead the true mystical evocation: Christ realised within, and seen in the mirror and in all creation.
